Because I’m lazy, tired from trying to work and take care of a sick kid all week, and because I won’t be sad to see 2009 stamped, “history.”
Best Protest Sign:
Best Song:: The late aughts have been a great time for good, independent music. tough call but I’ll go with my gut. “White Feather,” by Wolfmother. I saw these guys live in November and I haven’t been rocked so hard in 10 years. They somehow manage to wrap up all the best that is classic metal (think early Sabbath, Deep Purple, Zepplin) while being new and refreshing at the same time. If the masses have any musical instincts left after having it beaten out of them by the music industry the last ten years, these guys will be superstars.
Best Blog: “The Daily Dish,” Andrew Sullivan’s blog at The Atlantic. Year-in and year-out, Sullivan continues to be a brave (and for a time very lonely) advocate for what actual conservatism looks like.
Best Software: Windows 7. After taking a collective shit on its worldwide user base with Vista, Mister Softee could not move fast enough to give it the hook and usher its successor on to the stage. With such a rush job, many thought Win 7 would be very buggy and a disaster. Wrong, they got it right and how. If you have been saddled with Vista, run don’t walk to upgrade to Win 7.
Best Open Source Software: Ubuntu Linux OS. Sick of viruses and updates? Don’t want to throw down the dough on Apple? Then Ubuntu is your huckleberry. Runs on any decent hardware. Linux for the masses!

Honorable Mention: SmokePing awesome network connection statistics tool. It is invaluable in helping us keep ISP’s feet to the fire on service quality.
Best Time Waster: Red a simple and addictive little web-based arcade shooter. Less is more.
Honorable Mention: This Isn’t Happiness a Tumblr photo blog. I haven’t really gotten into the whole Tumblr thing because, well… I have a job where I’m expected to occasionally get something done.
And on that note, I’m off to try to do some of that before beginning the New Year’s Bacchanalia. Be safe!
